Camelid Complete Feeds

Alpacas and Llamas like other ruminants rely on microbes to digest both concentrate feed and fibre such as grass or hay. These "bugs" can be destroyed or damaged by sudden changes in the diet.

It is therefore necessary to change their diet over a period of at least 7 to 10 days.

This is easily accomplished by mixing a small amount of the new feed to the existing diet. This is increased gradually over time until the required amount is reached.

It is advisable to follow the above procedure when new Alpacas or Llamas join your herd.
